Groups and Drop-Ins

YASP is a young persons support project and offers advice, support and practical help to young people, 15 – 25 yrs, under stress – helping you to get your head together.

We currently offer the following services:

Advice Drop-In : Tuesday & Thursday ( 2pm - 4pm )

A YASP Caseworker is on hand for two afternoons a week to provide confidential advice and guidance on practical issues such as benefits, housing, debt, the law etc. These sessions are on a "first come, first served" basis and are ideal for anyone wishing to access support with emergency issues.

Connexions Drop In : Monday ( 11am - 1pm )

Why not drop in on Monday morning for all you need to know about education, training and employment? The Connexions Adviser can give one to one support and guidance on issues such as CVs, how to handle job interviews, volunteering opportunities in the area and benefit advice for when you get a job.

Loose Women: Tuesday : Taking a short break - will restart soon - watch this space!

This is  a group especially for women started by YASP volunteers. It aims to help young women gain confidence, give and receive support and encourage the development of social skills. The Group has run activities such as a Laughter Workshop, Head Massage and Aromatherapy that aid relaxation and reduce stress. So why not come down to take part every Tuesday.

Football Group : Tuesday ( 4:50pm - 6pm )

The YASP Football Group is an ideal place to come for a relaxed kick around on a Tuesday evening. You don't have to be Wayne Rooney or David Beckham to take part, you just need a pair of trainers. Our football group offers you the opportunity to come and increase your fitness and meet new people.

Health Drop In : Wednesday ( 12pm - 1pm and 3pm - 4pm )

This Drop-In incorporates advice from both the Youth Access Team and experienced school nurses. They are on hand to offer confidential advice on all aspects of your health. This can include mental health issues (depression, low confidence, problems with eating etc.) as well as physical health. They are also available for any concerns you may have around your sexual health such as pregnancy testing and giving out free condoms.

YASP Activities Group : Thursday ( 1 - 4pm )

YASP runs a FREE Activities Group on a Thursday afternoon and is a great opportunity to have a change in environment, make new friends or just do something a bit different. The group is small and informal and has recently included trips out laser questing, bowling, horse riding and indoor rock climbing. All activities are free so all you have to do to get a place is contact Martin Stanier in advance and turn up before 1pm! See activities for more info.

Volunteering Opportunities

YASP is always looking for volunteers to help with the day to day running of the Café, particularly in the kitchen. We provide ongoing opportunities to learn new catering skills, make new friends, build confidence and self-esteem whilst gaining experience of working in a busy Café. See cafe for more info.

For more information on any of the above or for an informal chat please contact Martin Stanier ( martin.stanier.yasp@harp-project.org ) or Joe Kisolo-Ssonko ( joe.yasp@harp-project.org ) on 0161 221 3054
