YASP plans to expand

YASP plans to expand

Our young persons advice and support project (YASP) is involved in an exiciting new project in partnership with the Inspire project which aims to redevelop Levenshulme United Reformed Church into a
vibrant multi-purpose community centre.

YASP plans to expand their small but successful internet café,
currently located on the opposite side of the road from the church, to a larger,
purpose-designed café that will serve the community, building users and be run
as a youth training programme.

As part of our ongoing planning it would be very helpful if you could take a couple of min's to fill in our online questionare about this development. To complete the online questionnaire

On its 18th we at HARP held a very sucessful AGM.

The event was very well attended and as well as getting through the formal buisness of our AGM we held some very good workshops  on wellbeing. We collected some really interesting information on what wellbeing means to service users and service providers.

More information to follow soon.

HELF : A Recipe For Success!

HELF : A Recipe For Success!

The HELF Partnership is a new project involving service users from HARP and the Manchester Mental Health and Social Care Trust. HELF is a tasty little acronym for "Healthy Eating Local Food".

The Partnership is led by HARP, and is developing a Manchester wide social enterprise, to engage mental health service users, young people, and the community in general, in healthy local food activities. HELF will increase food security, and improve skills, confidence and overall health in the community.

We will achieve this with a variety of food related work, and work based learning opportunities for beneficiaries, based around growing, cooking, processing, and distributing food. Mental health service users will also be provided with support and moving on services to help them gain in confidence and be more included in mainstream society.

In 2006 the Partnership received £5,000 seed funding from Manchester Food Futures, which was boosted by an additional injection of cash from HARP and the Trust. This was used to consult with service users and other stakeholder organisations, develop a strategic action plan and raise funds.

In August this year the project received confirmation of £180,000 funding, half of which has been awarded by Comic Relief's Red Nose Fund, and the other half being part of Northwest regional portfolio for the BIG Lottery Well-being fund. The money is to be used primarily as a three-year project to employ a HELF development worker, and recruitment is currently underway.
